Interesting thoughts there mate. Never heard that re lateral line. I use 15lb fluoro. And PE 0.8 braid. Knot is an Alberto between braid and Fluor. Never managed to master the FG.

Good stuff. Am told that bass can detect the line with their lateral lines more than they can see it, so maybe (thinner) braid is better.
Anyway, I'd be curious to know:
1. What breaking strain fluoro were you using? I find 8lb fluoro hooks many more fish than the 15-20lb stuff people normally use, and I wonder how that would compare with braid straight through.
2. With braid only, what knot do you use to tie on the lure? Whenever I try that method, the knot seems to slip and give way under tension, probably because the material slides against itself like Teflon, even if you add a couple of hitches. Need a better knot.

Main reason I use a leader is to avoid tangles and I think it protects the fish. Bass aren't line shy, I've had some of my best seasons on stupid colour braids.

Very interesting with braid, I dont thinK fluoro makes a big difference with (Bass) I mostly only use mono of quality when i have to use very thin leader as its much stronger in low mm and when i have to use thicker i use line thats coated in flouro again of quality as its stronger than 100 percent flouro, great channel tightlines....

Yes maybe. Good point. But if they see it and still bite, who cares 😂. I must say I’ll still use a fluoro leader because it doesn’t do any harm. Good to test it though. Interestingly no one has actually said that they think they catch more using fluoro. Anyone?? ….

thanks Man. Its an Iron 827. Great boat - not designed for fishing but weve made a few modifations like installing a livebait well and bait station where a rear facing bench seat used to be. Great boat in good weather. As its an open boat there isn't much shelter, but we like being able to fish off the bow and dont go out in bad weather so it suits us.

I'll stick with mono/fluoro leaders because the stiffness cuts down tangles.

It also keeps the lure streamlined in my opinion especially if your using triple hooks the hooks can catch on the braid and cut the line from casting or if the fish gets tangled in the line. Just my experience, I've tried both but still prefer braid to swivel and a leader for all my lure fishing. Much respect from Ireland 🇮🇪

Thanks man. As long as you’re on clean ground I can’t see any need for a three foot fluoro leader.
