What we tested

30 Bass on a NEW Lure! Is the Fiiish Power Tail Shallow That Good?

What this session suggests

25 bass on the Fiiish Power Tail Shallow across multiple trips is a promising result.
The smaller size was our most productive, all three colours caught fish, and inline singles appeared to reduce fish damage without noticeably affecting hookups.
But we don’t claim one lure works everywhere. Conditions, presentation and feeding behaviour all matter.
We test tackle in real fishing situations, record the results and let the fish decide.

What this does not prove

This is field evidence. Fishing time, angler execution, lure differences and changing conditions can affect a session. No controlled causal or universal conclusion should be inferred.

30 BASS! Fiiish Power Tail Shallow Tested | 3 Colours, 2 Sizes & Single vs Treble Hooks

30 bass. Multiple trips. Three colours. Two lure sizes. Different tides, wind strengths and water temperatures. Is the Fiiish Power Tail Shallow one of the most interesting new hard lures for UK sea bass fishing?

In this BassLureFish episode, we put the Fiiish Power Tail Shallow through a real-world bass lure fishing test, comparing lure sizes, colours, fishing conditions and treble hooks against inline singles.

This unusual hardbait combines the appeal of traditional bass fishing plugs with a modern rotating rear disc that generates vibration and underwater disturbance. But does it catch fish?

🎣 THE RESULTS — 30 BASS CAUGHT

Across multiple fishing sessions:

• Total bass: 30
• Fiiish Power Tail Shallow: 25 bass (83%)
• Smaller Power Tail Shallow: 20 bass
• Larger Power Tail Shallow: 5 bass
• Xorus Patchinko 90, Khaki: 2 bass
• Joker Jigs 100g slow-pitch jig: 3 bass

All three Power Tail colours caught bass. The smaller version accounted for 80% of our Power Tail catches, outperforming the larger version by 4:1 in total fish landed.

🌊 TIDES, WIND & WATER CONDITIONS

We tested the Power Tail Shallow across several trips with changing tidal flow, wind directions, wind strengths and water temperatures.

Illustrative conditions for comparison (not verified session measurements):

• Session A: SW 5–9 knots, flooding tide, clear water, 15°C.
• Session B: W 12–17 knots, ebbing tide, moderate surface disturbance, 14°C.
• Session C: NE 7–12 knots, changing tide, slightly coloured water, 13°C.

These varied conditions helped us explore how lure presentation, size and colour might influence bass catches.

📏 SMALL VS LARGE POWER TAIL

The smaller Fiiish Power Tail Shallow caught 20 bass compared with five on the larger version.

Was the smaller profile a better match for the baitfish? Was it easier for bass to attack? Or did fishing conditions influence the results?

These figures represent catches, not standardised catch rates. We didn’t control for fishing time or casts per lure.

🪝 TREBLE HOOKS VS INLINE SINGLES

We began with treble hooks before switching to inline single hooks.

Our observations:

• No noticeable reduction in hookups.
• Less visible damage to bass during unhooking.
• Easier hook removal and fish handling.
• Encouraging results for catch-and-release fishing.

This wasn’t a controlled scientific experiment, but our experience suggests inline singles may offer real fish-welfare advantages without sacrificing hooking performance.

🔍 HOW DOES THE POWER TAIL SHALLOW WORK?

The Fiiish Power Tail Shallow is a modern hard-bodied bass lure with a distinctive rotating rear disc.

Unlike conventional diving minnows and traditional plugs, the rear disc adds vibration and disturbance to its underwater presentation.

We investigate its action, performance and potential for UK sea bass lure fishing.

🏆 OUR VERDICT

25 bass on the Fiiish Power Tail Shallow across multiple trips is a promising result.

The smaller size was our most productive, all three colours caught fish, and inline singles appeared to reduce fish damage without noticeably affecting hookups.

But we don’t claim one lure works everywhere. Conditions, presentation and feeding behaviour all matter.

We test tackle in real fishing situations, record the results and let the fish decide.
