In this video we go through the soft plastics that have produced our best bass this season, explain when and why we choose them, and show some of the small rigging and retrieve tricks that help us fish soft plastic lures more effectively.
We put them to work in real UK sea bass fishing conditions, catch multiple fish, and one of these lures helps produce our best bass of the season , an 80cm sea bass.

It’s had days that you need to run through the couloirs and makes to see what the Bass want… I’ve have most of my success with the Westin Sandy Andy’s. They’ve out fished the sidewinders…. 5-1.. I’m not sponsored and pay top money for these just incase you think different.
So I think I’ll stay with them.

In winter it’s even more pronounced. Hardly any movement in the lure or creature bait works a treat for me in harbours. It’s a question of confidence and trusting the method. Just because you might catch on a fast retrieve doesn’t mean that you won’t catch more or won’t catch bigger fish by slowing it down. Every day is different. Whic…

Posted 2026-08-27 · checked 2026-10-07.Yep. I agree. but I’ve had great success recently on surface lures putting in a really long pause during the retrieve. Sometimes as long as five seconds. The larger fish have come to a surface lure worked fast and then completely stopped.
