Re the pink lure. Though I've not connected with a Bass with it yet I did catch a cracking Zander on one 😁.

So the movement has nothing to do with it also.

Good video bud and some people crack me up ,oh you held the fishy the wrong way 😂 but never have a problem with live baiting , trawler caught fish , chapping then on the head for the pot etc 😂😂

This test is laughable .
Bass can feed like crazy for 10 minutes then just disappear for hours ,they have feed windows related to many factors including tide strength and outside those windows they can be very hard to catch ,so the colour you throw out at the peak of feed time is going to shine .
The second thing that makes this test laughable is about 4 /5 years ago I made a comment on one of John's videos explaining my own experiences with lures and more importantly colours.
For me I had tried many best name lures with zero success ,then I brought some 360gt lures 22g .
Had a few bass on different colours which had us buzzing ,then we tried the mackerel green version and boom fish after fish ,like 50 on trot .
John locker mocked my words and said any colour lure will catch if it's presented during that feed window .
Needless to say it's not the case ,I have been out loads of times smashing bass while boats near me are trying every lure in thier collection to get some action .
The other irony having dismissed my words was that two or three videos later I spotted John had started using 360gt lures in many colours and was smashing bass and pollock very effectively .his new lures are very similar design to gt360 with hook protruding on back of fish ,not belly as your title image shows.

@BassLureFish First things first, I am in awe of anyone who has the balls to put themselves "out there" for the world to see. Which sort of raises the point of, who am I to criticise you? So thanks for reaching out. As a fisherman and biologist, I would suggest that, wherever possible, all fish be held horizontally. If the fish is going to sag at the tail end when held by the mouth, then horizontal is best. The tail-sag issue means the jaw and spine are under an unnatural load. A quick photo hold is unlikely to be catastrophic for a robust species like bass or pike, but for carp, tench, bream or trout, full body support is always the better choice. Likewise, holding vertically for longer than necessary can cause some species to sustain internal damage. So two-handed horizontal support, one hand at the mouth/pectoral area, one supporting the belly near the tail — keeping the fish as level as possible, oh and maybe a net if practical. Cheers

Appreciate the comment. You’re not the first person to mention this and it’s something I’ve been thinking about since filming. The fish swam away strongly, but I understand the concern and I’ll be making more of an effort to support larger fish fully in future. What do you consider the best practice for bass handling?

I loved the concept for this video, but I switched off after the way you handled the second fish (2:47). If it's going on the plate, then fair enough, it doesn't really matter but for C&R at least support from the tail end as well. Holding it just by the mouth creates a cantilever effect. In water, a fish is essentially weightless relative to its body structure; out of water, gravity acts fully on it. The full weight of the body hangs from the jaw joint and the soft tissue connecting it — structures never designed to bear that load. Try lifting a piece of wood from one end only and you should get the picture.

@PredatorLuresuk yet pink is considered a day game colour & yellow generally at night.
personally I catch on every colour in the box but on any given day one colour can outfish the others completely.
too many other variables in weather, tides, clarity, pressure etc to ever make these colour videos definitive

Fair comment. The fish was supported properly before release, but looking back I could have done a better job supporting it during that shot. Always learning. What’s your preferred way of handling larger bass for a quick photo?

Do you ever take any for the pot? Or entirely catch and release?
