Thanks for those thoughts mate. Appreciated. So tell us more. What colours for bass work best and in what conditions. My experience is that natural colours like khaki work best alongside the white. But would welcome your own thoughts which will honk tomorrow database on Basslurefish.com for other anglers to benefit from. We’re all learning here.

The best colour is the one that tiggers fish on the day. I've done a lot of trolling for pike with multiple rods and on some days, it'll be one particular colour that gets the most takes, then you just switch other rods to that same lure/colour and you're hauling. When fish aren't active, it makes no difference what colour you use, when they are - it's often does - which is dependant on water clarity, time of day, overcast or sun, depth, etc. I think a lot of guys who lure f…

I've been bass fishing with lures for a while now and it didn't take me long to start doing well, a lot better than most I would say. Having an understanding of colour and when it can make a difference is something that will catch you more bass and no, pink and white are not the best colours - people only think they are as that's all they seem to use...

@BassLureFishi fish from the pier ...i use the standard black minnow ..I prefer pink or white or the white and yellow UV one because I fish mostly in the evening and sometimes in the night . Mostly I fish with the 8 and 10 gram ... sometimes 12 gram.

Thanks dude. White all day long. What about the white lures with red jig heads? So many patterns seem to have that for some reason. But it’s weird. No fish resembles it but it still catches. Maybe another test for me to do.

Hey man. Thanks for your observations. The lures were identical apart from colour. All same size. The 40g Ebbrox Titan Shad. Water clarity wasn’t perfect which might explain why white won?

Great video! My tip: if you take the fish home for dinner, check what is inside their stomach while cleaning the fish. Here in the Netherlands I find a lot of small crab and 70mm minnows. So I match my lures to that. My favorite lure colour is white btw.

White seems to work well and kahki, slow steady retrieve, nothing else.. Great sport on light tackle, i use braid Varvias Avani 0.16mm 20lb and a good length of 16lb fluro leader rod is 12ft 14gram to 42 gram travel spining rod rod and a Daiwa Exceler 23 LT5000CXH.. I fish off the rocks mainly find headlands with a bit of reef or anything that causes surf or water to break usually holds fish, last time out last week I was 16ft above the water no drop net or landing net had to lift it up, rod held well and fish stayed on.. had alot more success in the dark especially when it's clear calm and warm.. Don't think I will beat my pb from the boat 82cm but would be very happy with any fish over 60cm on a spinning rod..

It's the megabass zonk. Because of supply issues the only way I've managed to find it again is to search for the lure and match the colours on the picture. This has been marketed in the past as various colours so be careful.
The amazon link below could be used as a colour pallet. I've checked my usual suppliers and none have them in stock, it's possibly a discontinued colour.
I'd recommend them in white, cotton candy and a mackerel immitation too. I'm always searching so if I…

I'd recommend them in white, cotton candy and a mackerel immitation too. I'm always searching so if I find a good supply I will post it on the big bass video and here. Thanks for watching those zonks are brilliant and there's about 6 of them lost somewhere on the South Coast snags!

A really inspirational video beautifully articulated with superb explanation. I have never really given much thought to lure fishing at night but down where I live on the Dorset coast there must be some great opportunities and I will definitely give it a good go. A couple of questions if I may: do you find that the technique works well into winter, after all we are already into the darker nights of November. Also, I assume that you are using a dedicated red light rather than some sort of filter on your ordinary white beam headlight, is this correct and if so can you recommend a specific brand of red light? Once again, many thanks for a great video.
