Thanks for those thoughts mate. Appreciated. So tell us more. What colours for bass work best and in what conditions. My experience is that natural colours like khaki work best alongside the white. But would welcome your own thoughts which will honk tomorrow database on Basslurefish.com for other anglers to benefit from. We’re all learning here.

The best colour is the one that tiggers fish on the day. I've done a lot of trolling for pike with multiple rods and on some days, it'll be one particular colour that gets the most takes, then you just switch other rods to that same lure/colour and you're hauling. When fish aren't active, it makes no difference what colour you use, when they are - it's often does - which is dependant on water clarity, time of day, overcast or sun, depth, etc. I think a lot of guys who lure f…

I've been bass fishing with lures for a while now and it didn't take me long to start doing well, a lot better than most I would say. Having an understanding of colour and when it can make a difference is something that will catch you more bass and no, pink and white are not the best colours - people only think they are as that's all they seem to use...

@BassLureFishi fish from the pier ...i use the standard black minnow ..I prefer pink or white or the white and yellow UV one because I fish mostly in the evening and sometimes in the night . Mostly I fish with the 8 and 10 gram ... sometimes 12 gram.

Thanks dude. White all day long. What about the white lures with red jig heads? So many patterns seem to have that for some reason. But it’s weird. No fish resembles it but it still catches. Maybe another test for me to do.

Hey man. Thanks for your observations. The lures were identical apart from colour. All same size. The 40g Ebbrox Titan Shad. Water clarity wasn’t perfect which might explain why white won?

Hi, before I comment about the vid I want to say that there are far better anglers than me watching this and commenting. I'd describe myself as an occasional / economy angler who uses a 60 quid Shimano rod and a 100 quid Ultegra reel - so definitely no expert! But this was a great vid which really got me thinking. First thing I'll agree with you is it's lifelong learning. Even when I blank I'm taking away some sort of positive. It took me about 20 years of on / off fishing be…
Hi, before I comment about the vid I want to say that there are far better anglers than me watching this and commenting. It took me about 20 years of on / off fishing before I caught my first bass. Couple of years ago I had about 40 over the summer - mostly schoolies with one or two keepers. I'd say the most important thing I've taken from bass fishing is location. Based in Torbay I could stand every high tide at Roundham or Goodrington prom with a lure rod and not catch a bass (cue for loads who say they have!) But move to a different area and its game on. They just seem to favour some areas more than others - yours is clearly a good bass mark. Interesting your take on the rod but I'm more than happy with my 8ft Shimano cheapy - it's the max size for my kayak set up. For me, my reel / line and line management would be 2nd on my list. I don't know how so many people get on with braid without wind knots. I've tried different types and have gone back to mono. Teklon gold seems to be best for its anti memory properties, but may try nanofil or Berkely x9 in future. Interesting your part on shade - I may come back to you on it as never much considered it much before. I stood at my favourite mark yesterday in still, glassy conditiopns with the polarised glasses on. The water clarity was excellent - and saw no fish at all anywhere, so maybe something in that. Lure wise - I usually use white 11.5cm white red gills but will try a cotton candy variety if I can get one. Thanks for a great vid.

Hi mate i commented on another video before if you remember me last year. I only just seen this video for beginners and was glad i found it. Id like to tell you a little about my situation now. Ive only just started lure fishing for bass been around 7 or 8 times but havnt caught a bass yet. It feels like until you have caught your first bass your confidence is as poor as ever and your thought patterns are negative because you havnt caught a bass yet. But im determined as ever to get my first one and i have the drive passion even though i havnt caught a bass yet. I got some surf seeker lures 2 white pearl ones as i heard this is the top colour for that lure. Also a black pearl one and the blue seeker. Im just fishing off the beach at the moment. Are the surf seekers all i need for the beach as far as lures go? Problem is i dont have transport and im limited to a few locations. Id also like to ask did you find it difficult to catch your first ever bass and did it take a while until you did? Id love to hear your story. I just subscribed because i forgot last year. A big fan of yours! Hope to hear from you again. Thanks mate.
Hi everyone, one thing I forgot to mention was to check out 'The Lure Fishing Podcast' hosted by Cormac Walsh. So far there are 4 episodes which are available on Spotify (absolutely free) from some great anglers including, Michael Kelly (the creator of Evobass lures) Henry Gilbey, Marcin Kantor and myself. Here's the link if you’d like to have a listen, thanks!

@SaltwaterAnglerWhat made you choose that particular lure colour Matt? Water didn't look that coloured. Komomo 90 go to shallow divers for me, have a fairly battered Pearl White that ends up being used just about every outing. Have a couple of surfaces lures in Chart Back Pearl which will make their way into the lure box when needs must. Tend not to consider using them this time of year, however, you have stirred that part of my brain that concerns itself with fishing 😂
