Thanks for those thoughts mate. Appreciated. So tell us more. What colours for bass work best and in what conditions. My experience is that natural colours like khaki work best alongside the white. But would welcome your own thoughts which will honk tomorrow database on Basslurefish.com for other anglers to benefit from. We’re all learning here.

Pink vs White Lures for Sea Bass: Does Colour Matter?

The best colour is the one that tiggers fish on the day. I've done a lot of trolling for pike with multiple rods and on some days, it'll be one particular colour that gets the most takes, then you just switch other rods to that same lure/colour and you're hauling. When fish aren't active, it makes no difference what colour you use, when they are - it's often does - which is dependant on water clarity, time of day, overcast or sun, depth, etc. I think a lot of guys who lure f…

I've been bass fishing with lures for a while now and it didn't take me long to start doing well, a lot better than most I would say. Having an understanding of colour and when it can make a difference is something that will catch you more bass and no, pink and white are not the best colours - people only think they are as that's all they seem to use...

5 TIPS TO CATCH MORE FISH | A BEGINNERS GUIDE TO BASS LURE FISHING

@ianroberts1417 Hi mate. Yeah, when you’re first starting out it isn’t uncommon to be blanking all the time. The best advice I could give you would be to not let the confidence fade. You will catch a bass at some point and once you do, you can build on that. If you’re only fishing 1 venue then I’d suggest fishing all states of tide, from low to high, then from high to low again. It’ll also be worth fishing it at first and last light too, plus in complete darkness. As far as t…

You will catch a bass at some point and once you do, you can build on that. If you’re only fishing 1 venue then I’d suggest fishing all states of tide, from low to high, then from high to low again. It’ll also be worth fishing it at first and last light too, plus in complete darkness. As far as the lures go, the seekers are great, I don’t use them too often myself but they’re a good lure. If there’s surf on your beach then fish the seekers in the white water. Any sandeel lure will do very well too. Could be a savage gear or westin, anything like that. It took me ages to catch my first bass! I fished a handful of venues and used the same lure constantly. It’s worth having a good variety of lures to cover all bases. It’s also worth speaking to anyone else who may fish the beach you go to. Be sure that bass are actually present there and that you’re not wasting your time and effort. Good luck with the fishing and I hope you catch one soon! Cheers.

Hi everyone, one thing I forgot to mention was to check out 'The Lure Fishing Podcast' hosted by Cormac Walsh. So far there are 4 episodes which are available on Spotify (absolutely free) from some great anglers including, Michael Kelly (the creator of Evobass lures) Henry Gilbey, Marcin Kantor and myself. Here's the link if you’d like to have a listen, thanks!

My Top Bass lures of 2018 and why you shouldn't buy Cheap !

This popped up into my feed again for some reason, so I thought I'd make a quick update.

My favourite top water of 2020 is the Whiplash Factory Spittin' Wire. I've caught 18 bass in 3 sessions using it; it's an insane lure and I am getting super confident with it. The other lure I have caught on this year is the Albie Snax soft plastic in pearl white.

Good luck when you manage to get out again; hopefully won't be too long now!

Graeme here. I am a bit late to the party, but I see you guys are having some great fun with the comments. Got to be one of the best ones I have seen, as it's good to see such interaction. Let me kick off by saying I just turned up randomly, I paid my £3 ticket as I wanted to report on an unusual type of fishing. I'm not a member of the perfect fish police, as I can't see how people say they are concerned about fish welfare when they stick a hook in it's mouth ?? If you are t…

If you are truly concerned then the logical step is to give up fishing and take up needlepoint. As for using a dropnet I would say it's impossible as the best bite is on the ebb tide and the water is ripping through. That's why the Bass are there. A dropnet would be dragged straight under the pier into the ironwork etc and you lose the net, line..and the fish. As for 40 feet ? I would suggest 12 feet maybe. If it was 40 feet that would be almost two stories of a block of flats !! In the film I catch a Pouting, whack a hook through it and drop it back for a bigger Bass...so how come the Pouting Police aren't whingeing about that ? Or are they trying to say the Bass is a far more important fish than a Pouting ? One commenter is correct in that tons of trout are dropped from an airplane to stock unreachable waters. That's a fact. The plane is doing, I guess 100mph ? The height ?..several hundred feet, so a drop from a pier doesn't compare. I do agree that you don't need a towel for Bass, I hold mine no problem, so I guess they don't want to be spiked. Another commenter mentioned that the the best thing to do rather than bitch is to go down there and give some of the locals a mouthful of what you feel...Very good luck to you pal, I suggest you take out medical insurance first because some of them looked as they they could certainly look after themselves. Finally, and here is the best bit. Two Fisheries Officers were down there on the pier while I was filming, talking to anglers and giving out measurement stickers. So some of you who are still in a cold sweat about fish handling might now want to think about that...And of course I realise the Bass purists won't like to see ordinary folk catching "their" special fish (and on lures too!) I love Bass and release many, but it's just a fish. But keep on commenting, I think it's great to see the crossover from Freshwater anglers who probably don't even go sea fishing. Fortunately I have a foot in both camps .
