Thanks for those thoughts mate. Appreciated. So tell us more. What colours for bass work best and in what conditions. My experience is that natural colours like khaki work best alongside the white. But would welcome your own thoughts which will honk tomorrow database on Basslurefish.com for other anglers to benefit from. We’re all learning here.

The best colour is the one that tiggers fish on the day. I've done a lot of trolling for pike with multiple rods and on some days, it'll be one particular colour that gets the most takes, then you just switch other rods to that same lure/colour and you're hauling. When fish aren't active, it makes no difference what colour you use, when they are - it's often does - which is dependant on water clarity, time of day, overcast or sun, depth, etc. I think a lot of guys who lure f…

I've been bass fishing with lures for a while now and it didn't take me long to start doing well, a lot better than most I would say. Having an understanding of colour and when it can make a difference is something that will catch you more bass and no, pink and white are not the best colours - people only think they are as that's all they seem to use...

@BassLureFishi fish from the pier ...i use the standard black minnow ..I prefer pink or white or the white and yellow UV one because I fish mostly in the evening and sometimes in the night . Mostly I fish with the 8 and 10 gram ... sometimes 12 gram.

Thanks dude. White all day long. What about the white lures with red jig heads? So many patterns seem to have that for some reason. But it’s weird. No fish resembles it but it still catches. Maybe another test for me to do.

Hey man. Thanks for your observations. The lures were identical apart from colour. All same size. The 40g Ebbrox Titan Shad. Water clarity wasn’t perfect which might explain why white won?

I have been using the bombarda method here on the Whitstable coastline at low tide for a number of years now and find it to be the best method when in the shallows. Unweighted Redgill sandeels work for me, white, yellow and orange colours. To help avoid the Long trace catching the float I either pass through the float a thick mono line with a stopper at the base of the float and leave maybe 100mm before attaching the light trace line, or thread the line through a length of spray can tubing at the base of the float again with a stopper (I would attach a photo, but it doesn't seem to let me). Also if you stop the flight of the float just before it hits the water it let's the lure continue past the float and avoids catching on the float. I tend to use a 12ft freshwater match or waggler rod which helps with the long traceline and provides great sport when hooked into a 3lb Bass. Use a feather on the end is also good way to get Mackerel (but we don't see them of this part of the coast😢)

@henrygilbey i love the gravity stick mini in pink or white. Would love to be able to buy them as paddletail only lures instead of the kits. Also all gravity sticks have been discontinued? Why? I love these lures and would love to purchase the 13cm ones in white or pink but again they are unavailable and discontinued. Can you speak to savahe gear and sort these issues?

That’s a great delivery of key information for Bassing, Douglas - you’re a natural teacher; well done! Watching from S.Italy on my holz - been nearly 3 weeks here ( it’s 40C today and no wind!) and I’m itching to get home to Edinburgh to get packed up for a few days car camping and Bassing around my marks in D&G. Tight lines, man! May see you or Steve around as you seem to go to marks I visit… like that you’re keepin’ em’quiet!

Oh, and for me, I’d say topwater lures that are ‘gotta haves’ are the legendary patch in 100, 125 and 140 - but i love the 125! Holo bait! Got to be not too choppy, but anything with a flash plate can be deadly!
SG Seekers are proven catchers, especially the smaller ones in white , lower grams - 30g is my max!
For SPs I use a (too big )variety from brands like Megabass ( the spindle) or TLF like Steve advocates for , through SG Sandeels & minnows ( again, smaller sizes/ 22g) - most catches have been on white or khaki- and I rate the pirate lures , and recently Labrax mafia in smaller sizes ( bubblegum pink!)
Best few fish / pbs I’ve had on my areas in SW Scotland have been on topwater 105 sg panic prey or Patch 125. Best Pb In South Devon with Joe/ Marc Cowling guiding me were at night on a black wave worm … oh, and I love using an albie snax - white! Unweighted!
Caught plenty bass on that including some dusk time pollock and a 52cm Ballan wrasse once, near a deeper water Kircudbright / Torrs point rock area.

Hi Julio cheers for watching and more for commenting👍
No I don't just target bass I love fishing of all types
I have a video called mackerel madness.
ChecK it out
I cstch loads on lure
I do find that the mackerel come in after the whitebait a couple of times over the summer rest of time they are out at sea so although bass are not as easy to cstch as mackerel they are more consistently there if you get me
Mackerel are great sport though
What do you fish for mate?
Is it just bass you go after or do you vary with mackerel every now and again?
