Thanks for those thoughts mate. Appreciated. So tell us more. What colours for bass work best and in what conditions. My experience is that natural colours like khaki work best alongside the white. But would welcome your own thoughts which will honk tomorrow database on Basslurefish.com for other anglers to benefit from. We’re all learning here.

Pink vs White Lures for Sea Bass: Does Colour Matter?

Details and original discussionPosted 2026-10-05 · checked 2026-10-17.
The best colour is the one that tiggers fish on the day. I've done a lot of trolling for pike with multiple rods and on some days, it'll be one particular colour that gets the most takes, then you just switch other rods to that same lure/colour and you're hauling. When fish aren't active, it makes no difference what colour you use, when they are - it's often does - which is dependant on water clarity, time of day, overcast or sun, depth, etc. I think a lot of guys who lure f…

I've been bass fishing with lures for a while now and it didn't take me long to start doing well, a lot better than most I would say. Having an understanding of colour and when it can make a difference is something that will catch you more bass and no, pink and white are not the best colours - people only think they are as that's all they seem to use...

White seems to work well and kahki, slow steady retrieve, nothing else.. Great sport on light tackle, i use braid Varvias Avani 0.16mm 20lb and a good length of 16lb fluro leader rod is 12ft 14gram to 42 gram travel spining rod rod and a Daiwa Exceler 23 LT5000CXH.. I fish off the rocks mainly find headlands with a bit of reef or anything that causes surf or water to break usually holds fish, last time out last week I was 16ft above the water no drop net or landing net had to lift it up, rod held well and fish stayed on.. had alot more success in the dark especially when it's clear calm and warm.. Don't think I will beat my pb from the boat 82cm but would be very happy with any fish over 60cm on a spinning rod..

LURE FISHING FOR BASS OVER OPEN COASTAL REEFS IN DARKNESS | THE TACTICS, LURES AND TECHNIQUES I USE

Hi Marc great informative video. The clip where you are retrieving at one turn a second and then slowing and speeding up again, what lure was that technique for? Also I have a mark where I'm fishing off 35-40 degree boulder drop off into a narrow sand gully of approx 10-20 metres wide and then reef beyond that protrudes up about 2 meters high for miles. Most fish are taking in the gully or under the rod tip as the lure comes up the face of the boulders., I get the odd fish a…

Most fish are taking in the gully or under the rod tip as the lure comes up the face of the boulders., I get the odd fish at distance over the reef but I'm finding it difficult to choose a lure to fish the gully effectively. Id say water depth is 6-8 feet over the reef and 12-15ft in the gully. A paddletail with a 10 g or 15g cheb or jighead seems to work okay, with the 10g meaning I can reel slower like 1 turn a second with the top low. I was just wondering if there was a better way , shallow divers work well when water is clearer and depth is lower, but I feel there better fish patrolling and holding in the gully. The problem is the boulder drop off is very snaggy. Regarding black Vs white, Black was doing really well for me I'd say 4 :1, even on pitch black nights with no moon, but even then the night sky is never true black. White has been doing better lately under a brighter moon I'd have expected the reverse but it's not the case. When we had lots of may weed, black dominated in the dark.

How to Catch MORE Bass (and bigger ones) | UK Bass Fishing | The Fal Anglers

@TheFalAnglersyeah that’s it mate it’s so quiet you can hear a pin drop at night. You can hear and see water movement easily aswell. I do have success with a paddletail in white at night also great lure. I’ve never been out yet this year I’m so excited to get out been waiting for the water temperature to get up a bit. I’m gonna sort all me stuff out and get out asap. Can’t wait !!!

Earlier comment in this discussion

I get most of my success under full darkness, fishing over reefs on a flat sea with a top water lure it’s brilliant fun. I have caught loads at last night in the surf etc there’s something about a bass hitting your light rod in darkness it’s class.
