Thanks for those thoughts mate. Appreciated. So tell us more. What colours for bass work best and in what conditions. My experience is that natural colours like khaki work best alongside the white. I've done a lot of trolling for pike with multiple rods and on some days, it'll be one particular colour that gets the most takes, then you just switch other rods to that same lure/colour and you're hauling. When fish aren't active, it makes no difference what colour you use, when they are - it's often does - which is dependant on water clarity, time of day, overcast or sun, depth, etc. I think a lot of guys who lure fish for bass could learn a lot from good pike lure anglers, as most I see yapping away on YouTube haven't a clue. I've been bass fishing with lures for a while now and it didn't take me long to start doing well, a lot better than most I would say. Having an understanding of colour and when it can make a difference is something that will catch you more bass and no, pink and white are not the best colours - people only think they are as that's all they seem to use...

Posted 2026-10-04 · checked 2026-10-16.@BassLureFishi fish from the pier ...i use the standard black minnow ..I prefer pink or white or the white and yellow UV one because I fish mostly in the evening and sometimes in the night . Mostly I fish with the 8 and 10 gram ... sometimes 12 gram.

Posted 2026-10-01 · checked 2026-10-16.Thanks dude. White all day long. What about the white lures with red jig heads? So many patterns seem to have that for some reason. But it’s weird. No fish resembles it but it still catches. Maybe another test for me to do.

Posted 2026-09-21 · checked 2026-10-16.Hey man. Thanks for your observations. The lures were identical apart from colour. All same size. The 40g Ebbrox Titan Shad. Water clarity wasn’t perfect which might explain why white won?

Old fashioned Lure lands a Bass !
Hi have you tried the sakura mister joe in white or white with yellow back 80mm slow sinking cast like a bullett fished cast count to 10 a couple of light twitches count to ten repeat have had a good few bass in Ireland using that lure and that tecnique.

@Fishingdorsetlive when there’s white water you know the big ones are somewhere. We went out Tuesday evening, perfect conditions but the weed got us….you just can’t fish a lure through it. If it was bait we’d of had half a chance

Anyone contemplating lure fishing at night for the first time should know the mark well by a daytime reconnaissance or if this is not possible fish the ebbing tide eliminating the risk of being cut off from behind, especially on an open surf beach or raised reef.
This advice supercedes anything over lure type, white or red light, speed of retrieve size of tide and type and strength of braid and leader.
