Describe direction relative to something
Against the flow, across it, towards the boat and along a drift are different descriptions. A useful account says what direction means in that session. Watch the footage if the written record does not make the geometry of the presentation clear.
Check depth and contact as well as direction
Changing direction can change how the presentation is delivered. If depth, lure weight or fishing time also changes, the result describes the combined approach. It does not isolate direction as the only explanation.
Compare with other retrieve tests
The static, straight-retrieve and sink-and-draw sessions examine other parts of presentation. Read them as separate questions and choose the comparison most relevant to the action you want to change. Their catch totals are not interchangeable measures of technique quality.
Common questions
Should I always retrieve against the tide?
This catalogue does not establish an always rule. Check the direction test and the actual session context before applying its result elsewhere.
What note would improve a repeat?
Record the direction relative to the flow and boat, the lure, depth, fishing time and when anglers swapped positions or approaches.
How this guide stays current
Eligible new BassLureFish long-form videos are linked automatically. Labelled results and conditions come from the latest successfully retrieved description, or identified original field notes. A source check alone does not create a new finding. Missing measurements remain gaps.
