What we tested
We used visible bird activity as the primary location cue and tested whether it translated into bass beneath the feeding activity.
What this session suggests
Bird activity is useful evidence, not certainty. It can identify bait or predators without proving that bass are underneath.
What this does not prove
Bird species, bait species, tide stage and predator mix can change the meaning of the same surface activity.

Bass were feeding everywhere.
Most anglers would stay right there…
But something didn’t feel right.
In this session we found loads of small bass smashing bait on the surface — but the bigger fish were holding deeper and away from the chaos.
So we moved.
What followed turned into one of our best sessions of the year.

Posted 2026-07-14 · checked 2026-10-07.Casting weight of rods I use is much much much lighter than the lure weight. My favourite two rods are 1-7g and 5-22g. They cast lures op to 20g no problem as long as you don’t beast it. I’m only flicking underarm most of the time from the boat. Both rods handle big bass no problem.
